Can I validate UK, Norwegian, or Swiss VAT numbers?

No – those are outside VIES, so vatnode does not validate GB, NO, or CH VAT numbers.

Why

vatnode validates through VIES, the EU’s system, and it only covers EU member states plus Northern Ireland. Checking a UK, Norwegian or Swiss number would need each country’s own registry rather than VIES, and vatnode has no live validation for those.

What you can still get

Their VAT rates and number formats are available in the rates reference data, including format patterns. That is reference data for formatting and rating, not a check that a given number is registered.

Northern Ireland is different

Northern Ireland businesses trading in goods with the EU use the XI prefix. Those numbers are valid in VIES and are fully validated:

• GET /v1/vat/XI… works like any EU number.
• A plain GB number is not accepted as a stand-in – use XI where the business is registered for Northern Ireland trade.
